Travelling to Salzburg
By airplane
The Salzburg Airport is located in the south-west of the city. Low-fare airlines, which approach Salzburg include Ryanair, Hapag Lloyd Express (HLX), Air Berlin and Niki. To get to the centre of the city, you can either take a Taxi (5 km to the centre: approx. 8-15,- €) or the bus no. 2 (direction: "Hauptbahnhof").
By rail
The main train station "Salzburg Hauptbahnhof" is aprox. 3 hours away from Vienna and 1,5-2 hours away from Munich (Frankfurt/Main approx. 6 hours and Zurich 6-8 hours). The main train station is 15 minutes walking distance from the town centre.

Fast trains are ÖBB EuroCity (ÖBB EC), ÖBB InterCity (ÖBB IC), EuroCity (EC), InterCity (IC), InterCityExpress (ICE), EuroNightLine and CityNightLine. ÖBB EC and IC and most IC trains are equiped with electronic plugs. Slower trains are"Eilzug" (E) and "Regionalzug" (R)
By car
The motorways from Vienna and Linz (A1) and from Graz and Klagenfurt (A2 / A10) lead directly to Salzburg.
Drivers from member states of the European Union need a valid national driving licence - an international driving licence is not mandatory.
The maximum speed limits in Austia are - if not otherwise indicated on road signs - 130km/h on motor-ways and expressways, 100km/h on country roads and 50km/h in town between the local road signs.
Avoid drinking and driving in Austria: the permissable alcohol limit is 0.5 promille!
Wearing seatbelts is prescribed and since May 2005, it is required to carry a security vest in the car. It's not allowed to use your mobile in car without any handsfree set.
Don't forget to apply a toll sticker (vignet) on the upper middle or left side of the windshield of your automobile, because they are compulsory for driving on motor-ways and expressways (even city motor-ways). You can purchase the toll sticker (e.g. a 10-days-sticker: 7,60 €) in Austria at the automobile clubs ÖAMTC or ARBÖ, at post offices, news agents and petrol stations or in neighbouring states at automobile clubs and at petrol stations close to the border.
In case of a breakdown you can contact one of the automobile clubs (ÖAMTC or ARBÖ) to engage the 24-hour emergency breakdown service (anyone can utilize it but non-members have to pay a fee). Call (+43) 120 for the ÖAMTC emergency breakdown service or (+43) 123 for the ARBÖ emergency breakdown service.
Traffic news is broadcasted on the radio station Ö3.
